Every Friday, 27% of Frederick County students leave school uncertain if they will have enough food to eat over the weekend. That’s 65 hours without proper nutrition and an empty belly…65 hours!
More than 11,000 of our students qualify for and receive free and reduced-price meals during the school week, but “Who will feed the kids this weekend?” Blessings in a Backpack, Frederick is a local chapter of the national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that seeks to solve this devastating problem.
Through an all-volunteer network, we mobilize community resources to provide food on the weekends, over school breaks, and for weather-related closing when school meals are unavailable. And we need your help.
The food provided by Blessings in a Backpack (BIAB) offers a greater opportunity for these children to return to school better prepared to participate and learn. BIAB Frederick currently serves 3,100 children in 22 local schools. It currently costs only $100 to feed a single child for an entire 38-week school year and all money raised is used to feed local Frederick children. The more money we raise, the more children we can feed! Donate here.
