Blessings in a Backpack Frederick Team
Program CoordinatorHermine was born in NYC and has lived in Frederick, with her husband, Fred, for the past 22 years. She’s the proud Mother of 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. After a long career in marketing & public relations, she returned to school to get her teaching degree, graduating in 1990 from Yale University with a dual degree in education and Judaic Studies, then went on to earn a Masters in Library Science and Education. When they moved to Maryland, Hermine began teaching elementary school in Montgomery County, retiring in 2007. About 6 years ago she dove into community service by serving on the Commission on Aging. In November 2013, after increased awareness about hunger among Frederick’s children, she switched gears, joining forces with the national Blessings in a Backpack organization to establish a Frederick Chapter. In Jan. 2014, BIAB began feeding 210 children in one local school. Thanks to amazing community support and a strong volunteer base, BIAB currently feeds 2,500 at-risk FCPS students during the 2017-18 school year.
